Acne Problems - Myths And Reality

Acne problems have affected almost all of us at some point in our lives. While a few people have been blessed with clear skin, most of us have had to struggle with the embarrassment and frustration of coping with acne attacks that unfortunately hit many during the fragile, teenage years. Since acne is such a sensitive issue, it is no wonder that so many myths and false products have grown because of it.

The reason for this is because so many of us would like to have a sure-fire cure that will quickly clear up all signs of acne so we can get on with our lives. When people are desperate for a quick cure, they will often invest in the first thing that comes their way, without really understanding their own acne problems or the remedy. For those who are really serious about tackling their acne, it is imperative to sift the fiction from the fact.

Like The Common Cold

Much like the common cold, there is no known cure for acne. While there are a number of products that claim to clear up acne quickly, the truth of the matter is that there is no guaranteed cure for it. Just as there is a lot of medication that can help you to cope with the symptoms of the common cold, there are a number of treatments available that can help you control your acne to a certain extent. The bottom line is that acne, just like a cold, has to run its course before it dries up and disappears on its own.

The parallels with the common cold don't stop there. Just as a healthy body and lifestyle will help you build resistance to a cold, eating right and exercising regularly can have a great effect on your skin. Pumping your system with nutritious food and allowing the skin to sweat from time to time will clear up your pores and revitalize your skin. And just as natural remedies often prove more effective than chemical ones in treating a cold, it is the natural treatments that give good results in treating acne problems.

Why Some Treatments Don't Work

Many people wonder why some acne creams and treatments only work on some people. The reason for this lies in the variation of skin types. If you have oily skin then an acne treatment that is cream-based won't work very well for you. Similarly if you have dry skin, a gel-based acne treatment could cause a lot of damage to your skin. For those with a mixed skin type, any of these kinds of treatments could have little or no effect on your acne.

Another reason why most chemical-based acne treatments don't work is because they do not go the root of your acne problems. Instead, they simply mask the external effects of acne, such as the swelling or redness. While this may offer temporary relief, the acne is bound to return. The best way to tackle acne is to wash your face regularly with a gentle soap and warm water. Don't use harsh cosmetics or soaps- opting for natural ones is best for your skin. Avoid popping pimples or zits, as this only spreads your acne to other areas of your face and can lead to complications later on. Acne might not be avoidable but it is certainly something you can treat if you eat right and treat your skin right. Your acne problems can be dealt with effectively in a natural way that doesn't tax your wallet.
