A Beam Of Hope With Laser Acne Removal

The effectiveness of antibiotics is gradually fading due to their frivolous use. Now, it’s laser acne removal that’s grabbing the limelight. It shows great potential in treating all forms of acne. No doubt, this treatment, also known as laser resurfacing, is fast gaining popularity among the acne sufferers.

The Process

In the process of laser acne removal, the doctor uses a laser pen. He or she directs it just above the affected area or acne scar tissue. The concentrated light beam pierces through the skin and vaporizes only the scar tissue. It generates new surface for the growth of skin cells. That’s why the treatment has a second name - “laser resurfacing”.

The yellow light that comes out of the pen destroys the bacteria that cause acne. There is a substance present in bacteria, which reacts with the light to produce oxygen – the much-needed product for your skin. Laser beams have also been found to enhance the development of collagen in the skin’s connective tissues. Collagen is a protein responsible for the texture of the skin. It prevents the formation of scars. A laser called V-beam diminishes the visibility of redness in acne and its scars.

Side Effects

Laser acne removal does not cause any pain and is absolutely safe. However, in most of the cases, mild bruising and swelling after the treatment is observed. It is nothing to worry about. The side effects last for 7-10 days at the most. Start applying make-up only after the side effects disappear.

Is Your Doctor The Right Person For The Job?

At present, the federal regulations apply only to the laser manufacturers. There is no law that puts eligibility criteria for performing this treatment. And lasers are not one, but of many types; enough to confuse a layman. Therefore, check the credentials of the surgeon or dermatologist before you ‘surrender’ your face to them.

Do not hesitate to ask abut the laser equipment, whether it’s purchased or rented. Also, inquire about the doctor’s training and experience regarding laser acne removal.

What About Dark-Skinned People?

Many doctors are of the opinion that laser acne removal is not for dark people. This is because it changes skin color noticeably and randomly. But some doctors believe that a highly competent surgeon can treat dark skin tones without causing undesirable color changes.

The Cost

Laser resurfacing may cost you more than $2,500 for the entire face. The other kinds of acne and scar removal may cost around $1,000. Always go to a reputed aesthetic dermatologist or laser surgeon. He or she knows what’s best for your skin.

The Laser Controversy

Much debate has been done over the effectiveness and safety of laser acne removal. It’s true that the long term effects of laser are still unknown, as it’s a new technology. However, it does benefit patients.

If you are fearful of going under the laser light, then antibiotics are not safe either. Prolonged use can harm your body. There has been mixed response to laser therapy. Some are happy with the results while some are disappointed. Maybe they have had high expectations.

You would do anything to make your skin free from acne. Up till now, you might have tried hundreds of remedies with no visible results. How about going for laser acne removal this time?
